Illegal online markets generate half of cybercrime revenues

A report on the cybercrime economy by Dr Mike McGuire from the University of Surrey reveals that illegal and illicit online trade is the most lucrative market for cybercrime with 50% of the market, while theft of intellectual property rights accounts for about 35% of cybercrime revenues. According to the study, digital platforms like Amazon contribute significantly to this market because they facilitate the exchanges of counterfeit products.
